Borassus flabellifer, or Tnaôt in Khmer, is a wild sugar palm tree that grows naturally throughout Cambodia. Extracting the sugar from its flowers is a Cambodian ancestral tradition and is the national symbol of the Kingdom alongside Angkor Wat.
Bo Tree Palmyra Flower Sugar is hand harvested from the blossom nectar of the wild Palmyra palm in Cambodia’s Kampong Speu province. With its fine, balanced sweetness and its unmistakable taste of honey, caramel and vanilla, it offers sweetness packed with flavour.
Kampong Speu Palmyra Palm Sugar was awarded protected designation of origin and a protected geographical indication (PGI) status in April 2019.
Health: Glucose free with sucrose and fructose, trace elements of potassium and magnesium, as well as vitamin C and the amino acids glutamine and arginin. This natural sugar doesn’t cause insulin secretion, so it is the ideal sugar for diabetics with a very low glycemic index of less than 30.
BoTree Palmyra Palm Sugar was awarded 2 gold stars at the Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste Awards, the fine and speciality food world’s equivalent of the “Oscars”, in 2021. Here is what the Judges had to say:
